The imaging system at the heart of the SmartLF Gx series scanners is an ultra-compact, digital CCD camera unit (DCU).  Each DCU is capable of scanning images at 600 dpi optical resolution and captures 48-bit colour or 16-bit panchromatic monochrome data.  Each DCU has 10,800 pixels of RGB triplets plus panchromatic monochrome data.

The major new innovation in the SmartLF Gx+ scanners is the Colortrac designed and manufactured bi-directional (2D) LED illumination system.  Colortrac’s use of LED technology is a major benefit to customers who will enjoy; instant-on colour calibration, lower ENERGY STAR® qualified running costs, lower consumable / service / disposal costs and greater reliability from the solid state digital LED design.  Compared with previous generation SmartLF CCD scanners, SmartLF Gx+ 42 uses 30% less power in operation as the LEDs are only on when actually scanning and 94% less when idle as the LEDs are switched off.  The estimated working life of the LED system is 50,000 hours, which equates to 6 years constant operation 24 hours per day, 7 days per week - with no vacation time!

The SmartLF Gx+ 56 scanners include a Colortrac designed 2D LED light system that is more environmentally friendly than fluorescent tube systems. It provides an instant on scanning capability, low power consumption and extra long life. SmartLF Gx+ 56 scanners are ENERGY STAR® qualified.
